SERVICE DETAILSThis year, our seniors are revisiting Granada, Nicaragua. We are partnered with La Esperanza, Granada and will be working on a small building project, along with working with kids in a local school. We're super excited to help out again!
INformation about La esperanzaLocated in Granada, Nicaragua, La Esperanza Granada is a volunteer group focusing on children’s education. ‘Born’ in 2002, they started in one small village on the outskirts of Granada, and now help more than 2,000 children in poverty-stricken areas. Our volunteers go out into the schools and assist the teachers, tutor young children, run sports programs, introduce children to computers, teach English and help stimulate an interest in learning. Volunteers come from around the world, for varying lengths of time. We try to help in a noninvasive way, working directly with the children and with the local schools, teachers, and parents to meet educational needs.
Information about us!Each year the senior class at Key Learning Community plans, raises money, and goes on an overseas trip to do community service for people outside our direct community. Throughout our education, we have had a focus on providing service for those close to us and this is our chance as seniors to reach out to help abroad. For many of our students, this will be the first time on a plane or even the first time out of the state.
Throughout the year we will be having events at the school and outside of the school to raise money to go on our trip. Our students spend the majority of the year raising money on their own and as a group to buy their passports, pay for plane tickets, a place to stay during the trip, along with the actual supplies we will use on the trip. We'll also have donation drives for school supplies throughout the year, so any help you can provide is useful! Key Learning Community is an IPS Magnet school in downtown Indianapolis and was the world's first Multiple Intelligence school based on Howard Gardner's theory of MI. Mission Statement Key Learning Community develops the whole student in an academically rigorous environment to be college and career ready. |
DonationS!We have two options for donations:
CREDIT CARDS Go here to make a donation to the IPS Education Foundation. You can enter any amount, then when you are entering your personal information, make sure to put in the comment section that you would like the money to go for the Key Senior Trip. Feel free to drop the name of a student in particular. CHECKS You can also write a check made out to the IPS Education Foundation and mail it to the school, or if you find one of us in the wild, we'll gladly accept it in person! We will use any money raised to help buy airline tickets and passports, buy supplies to bring with us, or use the money during the trip to buy supplies there to help directly! DONORS
We couldn't have made the trip this year possible without the help of these donors.
