Today we continued to paint the outside of the school and had our first day of English lessons. Caleb and I taught the students The Hello Song. It was touching connecting with them and having opportunities to exchange our cultures. We wrapped up the day with another fun round of capture the flag!
We climbed a volcano today. It was amazing! Here are just a few things we experienced during the climb: 1. Military trucks 2. native orchids 3. a sloth 4. a baby sloth 5. a coffee plantation 6. a banana plantation 7. plants 8. plants 9. and plants! 10. oh, and smoking sulfur
After yesterday's adrenaline-filled beginning to our trip, I couldn't wait to see what today had in store. To my surprise, Nicaragua wasted no time providing another thrill: we awoke to a 5.2 magnitude EARTHQUAKE!! What a way to shake up the day and push the boundaries once again! It is fascinating and inspiring to feel the trembling power of the Earth. So much, in fact, that it left me awestruck, energized, and even a bit fearful. These are some of the same feelings I hope to tackle during our service work here! What a powerful message from the Earth to kick off the start of our service in Nicaragua.
Today was our first day in Nicaragua, and I am excited to make the most of our time here. We wasted no time today from our 6 am flight to our time spent ziplining. (Although I did manage to get a nap in during lunch) I can't wait to see what more this trip has in store as we focus on our service project! Tomorrow we head to Granada :) |
